Are there jobs out there for convicted felons? The terms and conditions of probation or parole often mandate that they do have some type of job lined up. If they owe restitution then a dollar amount is assigned each month that they have to pay. Otherwise they can end up in additional trouble. Not being able to find a job though is a tough situation for many of them.
With so many people out of work due to the economy right now it may seem like it is even tougher for them. Convicted felons may feel like they have a black X across their name when it comes to finding a job. More and more employers out there are investing in background checks before they offer someone a job. They want to be confident their business and the other employees aren’t at risk.
While not everyone is willing to offer jobs for convicted felons, some people are. Finding the right location to look for work is very important. The construction industry seems to be one field where someone can get hired in spite of their past. They do have to be hard working and show up on time though. It is best to work in construction in an area with mild winters though. Otherwise delays and layoffs can occur frequently and a person may not know when they will work – it is on a day by day basis.
Office work is possible when it comes to convicted felons. There are different types of it including data entry that may be available. Depending on the type of conviction though some jobs may be out of the question. For example those that involve taking orders for customers over the phone. A person that has been convicted for theft shouldn’t be allowed to take the credit card information on those calling in.
Some of the jobs for convicted felons though include answering phones, scheduling appointments, and even cleaning up after other employees. While such jobs may not be glamorous they can help to pay the bills. They also give someone a sense of worth because they are contributing to society in some way.
Many agencies out there do realize that it is harder for convicted felons to get a job than the average person. As a result of that, they do have some programs in place to help. For example there are programs that offer tax incentives and wage incentives for those that offer jobs for convicted felons. They agree to give the person a chance on a probationary period.
During that time frame a portion of the wages for the employee may be paid by the representing agency. After the probationary period the convicted felon may be let go if they haven’t done a good job. If they have proven themselves to be great employees though then they are hired on permanently and the employer will be responsible to pay all of the wages.
Some convicted felons get out there and start their own business. They don’t want the hassle of trying to find someone to hire them. Due to the millions of people that shop online, anyone can be a business owner in that realm. It doesn’t cost very much to do so. It also doesn’t require them to state that they are a convicted felon. Having a positive attitude and willing to take on any job can help someone in such a situation to find a job. Transportation issues and clothing need to be looked at as well when it comes to jobs for convicted felons. Getting there is half of the battle.
